Bake Element: What a Healthy One Looks Like
For an Edmonds owner with an electric Viking wall oven or range, a failing bake element usually shows first as slow preheats and pale bottoms, well before the oven stops heating.

Where to look, and when you cannot
Some Viking electric ovens show the element across the oven floor; others keep it out of sight. Viking’s Professional gas self-clean ranges have no bake element at all: their baking heat comes from a U-shaped gas burner at the bottom of the cavity.
Where the element is visible, look with the oven off and completely cold, under a torch, along its full length and at the terminals.
Why part of an element can fail
The element is a coiled wire packed inside a metal sheath. When one stretch thins or the sheath cracks, the oven receives less than full output: preheats drag and bottoms stay pale. An oven whose bake element has died outright can still seem to half work, because the broil element at the top heats when it is selected.
Where owner checks stop
Looking, and the breaker, are the owner’s side. Unscrewing the element or metering it belongs to a Viking wall oven repair visit, where resistance and the terminals are checked. A replacement is priced from the published bake or broil element band.
